Tayla Basawa

Profile

Tayla began her career at Whitelaw Twining as a summer student in 2023. She completed her articling term with the firm in 2024 and was called to the Bar in 2025. She practices civil litigation, including bodily injury, commercial, and insurance law. Additionally, Tayla assists in advising First Nations on various litigation matters.

Tayla has appeared in matters before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta. She has also assisted with matters before the Court of King’s Bench of Saskatchewan. Tayla employs a client-centred approach to resolving disputes and aims to deliver efficient and practical solutions for her clients.

Tayla graduated from the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. During law school, Tayla volunteered with Student Legal Assistance, where she gained experience assisting clients with various civil matters and strengthened her advocacy skills. Before law school, Tayla graduated with distinction and received an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Royal University.

In her spare time, Tayla enjoys traveling, playing pickleball, spending time with friends and family, and exploring Calgary’s food scene.
