Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated annually by Sikhs and Hindus worldwide. This significant festival marks key historical events for each religion. For some, it commemorates the release of Guru Hargobind and 52 princes from the Gwalior Fort in 1619, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, freedom, and justice. For others, it celebrates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his victory over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Each year, homes are adorned with candles, lights, flowers and brightly coloured decorations. Families come together in prayer and share sweets and gifts, signifying joy, peace, and prosperity. This year, Diwali was celebrated on October 31, 2024.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee extends warm wishes to everyone celebrating Diwali, acknowledging the importance of this festival in promoting joy, peace, and cultural unity.
On behalf of everyone at Whitelaw Twining, Happy Diwali!
