On behalf of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee at Whitelaw Twining, we are happy to be celebrating Pride month starting in June to run through summer until August.
Pride month is a celebration of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and a promotion of self-affirmation, dignity, equity, and increased visibility. Pride was developed as a response to the historic shame and social stigma this community has faced, as well as an intersectional support for marginalized identities and social rights movements.
With three offices across Canada, we are participating in Pride events and initiatives across three different offices in three different cities. Throughout the year, we have annually participated in the LGBTQIA2S+ Firm Hop and attended the Pride parades in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.
While the firm aims to uplift and hold space for queer voices throughout the year, some further initiatives that our DEI committee is working to implement going forward include providing legal support for individuals who self-identify as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community through pro bono work and connecting with nationwide organizations for volunteering.
We are proud to celebrate Pride and provide advocacy through collective strength.
