Profile

Ray Wong primarily practices in the field of litigation with an emphasis on insurance defence. He has represented property and casualty insurers and disability insurers at all levels of courts in Alberta and British Columbia. Ray developed his legal skills through his employment at one of the largest property casualty insurers in Canada and he has provided various opinions on policy wording and coverage on commercial general liability policies. Ray believes that his in-house experience provided him a clear advantage in dealing with his insurance clients.

Representative work experience:

  • Appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta and the Supreme Court of British Columbia
  • Attended more than 200 Judicial Dispute Resolutions and private mediations in Alberta and British Columbia
  • Defence Counsel for Lawyers, Pharmacists, Optometrists, Insurance Brokers and other professionals in professional negligence claims
  • Defence Counsel for General Contractors, Subcontractors, trades and suppliers in complex construction litigation
  • Acted for an Insurer to pursue subrogated property damage claims arising from the largest fire in Calgary’s history
  • Acted for numerous national and international Insurers in pursuing subrogated losses arising from fire; improper workmanship and construction, improper design and product liability
  • Acted for directors and officers of corporations and non-profit organizations in wrongful dismissal lawsuits, breach of trademark and subrogated Worker’s Compensation Claims
  • Acted for numerous national and international Insurers with respect to complex personal injury matters including severe traumatic brain injuries, quadriplegic and paraplegics arising from motor vehicle accidents, occupier liability and social host liability claims
  • Provided coverage opinions on various insurance issues to insurance companies and insurers
